About
A stunt game about the last ten seconds of a flying car's jump
Rocket Roadster is a free browser game set on a desert test range at sunset. You launch a rocket-powered roadster off a curved concrete ramp, throw flips over the canyon, fly through rings, and then fire the four landing thrusters under the car to touch down on its wheels. It runs in any modern browser on desktop or phone, with nothing to install.
How the physics works
The car follows a real ballistic arc. The ramp is a quarter-pipe with a 26-metre radius, so the car pulls about 7 G at the bottom at 145 km/h. Once airborne, gravity, a little air drag and (on some levels) wind act on it. The thrusters push through the car's roof line at a bit over twice gravity, which is why you have to level the car before a burn does any good. The Gyro control does that levelling for you.
Levels and progress
There are fifteen levels in three chapters: Rookie, Pro and Legend. Each one adds a taller ramp, rings, a landing pad, wind, a fuel limit or a trick requirement, and new cars unlock as you go. Four backgrounds are available: Sunset Mesa, plus Moonlit Canyon, Glacier Run and Red Planet, which you unlock by watching short optional ads. Your best scores, stars, unlocked levels and backgrounds are saved in your own browser and never sent anywhere.
